Extract All Coins, Lest Ye Be 'Sploded
1,699TH PLACE IN 2024 THE GMTK GAME JAM
Extract All Coins, Lest Ye Be 'Sploded is my submission for the 2024 GMTK Game Jam and is a simple Under/Over game where you are trying to safely extract all coins, or indeed, risk being 'sploded by dynamite.
- THE PREMISE: There is a scale with 15 coins on either side. You must maintain a careful balance and add/remove coins from one side at a time by guessing in a simple Under/Over game between 0 - 30.
- WIN STATE: Removing all coins wins the game.
- LOSE STATE: Creating a differential of ±6 coins detonates the dynamite and ruins your day.
- THE GOAL: Remove all coins. If you want to get competitive, remove all coins in as few as rounds as possible. Brag to your buddies when you do better than them, and blame it on RNG when you don't!
The game runs in a loop of these stages:
- SIDE SELECTION: The computer selects a side of the scale that this round will affect.
- WAGER: You are shown the random number (0 - 30), and asked to wager 1, 2, or 3 coins depending on your confidence of guessing correctly.
- MAKE A CHOICE: Choose whether the next randomly selected number will be OVER or UNDER the number in the center of the screen.
- RESOLUTION: If your guess is correct, the amount of coins you've wagered is subtracted from the current side. If your guess is incorrect, your wagered amount is added to that side.
- REPEAT: If you haven't won or died, start over.
- Tip: You may need to intentionally guess wrong and add coins back to a side to play it safe!
- Remember: Don't take too many coins off of one side and end your run through greed! Slow and steady.
- PS: There is a secret ending. Good luck! This is not a pixel hunt. Just play the game but...do worse.
If you are interested in simple games with short playthroughs or curious to see how aggravating it feels to guess Over on a 1 and have it be 0, this is your game!
Thanks to Mark Brown and the crew for putting this together!
